Rob Adams loves a road trip.
If you know him, you know that to be a fact and it’s something he shares regularly on his blog over at Exit 55—AKA SteelYankee.blogspot.com.
So, when I decided to take this Project 364/365 ride over the course of 2019, there was only one person I wanted to come with me on such a journey.
Rob.
On Dec. 31, 2018, I wrote a post announcing the “365 Days of Me” Project.
The next day I changed it to “Project 365”, and I invited Rob/Exit 55 to join me.
He grabbed his virtual go-bag and we were off.
And, unlike me, he hasn’t missed a day.
One of my favorite parts of Project 364/365 has been getting to know Rob on a far more personal level than I had before.
I knew Rob professionally through his association with WGCH Radio down in Greenwich, and his work with the now-defunct Hersom-Acorn publishing company.
We followed each other on social media, which is how I learned of Exit 55.
There is no doubt I now consider him a friend, even though we’ve never tipped back a beer, or shared a Waffle House breakfast.
Methinks that’s something we’ll have to rectify soon in celebration of crossing the finish line of our joint project.
Rob, I’m proud to point out, was perfect—365-for-365.
Bobby Murcer—perhaps his favorite Yankee—would be proud, too.
Some he hit out of the park. Others he fouled off.
But he didn’t miss a pitch.
I think he went on a far more personal journey than I did, touching on places that were near and dear to him, and because he did my admiration for him grew.
He might be a radio guy—and a damned good one at that— but he’s also a writer.
He shouldn’t let anybody tell him otherwise.
As our little Project comes to a close I would be remiss if I didn’t tip my cap to Rob for his efforts.
One of my favorite sports-jargon words is “yeoman” and Rob gave a yeoman’s effort for 365 days.
I’m proud of him.
And I know just like “The October Weekend” will live on beyond Project 364/365, so too will “Exit 55.”
We are not done.
Far from it.
I look forward to reading his posts over the coming year and I have a feeling, like my own, there will be more posts coming in the New Year than there was in the years leading up to the Project.
I think that’s why we both started this journey, to give ourselves a boost moving forward.
Thanks for coming on this ride with me, Rob.
It meant a lot.
